Francisco Dosamantes (1911 - 1986)

“Francisco Dosamantes was born in Mexico in 1911 and studied at the National School of Fine Art and at the University of Mexico. He had his first one-man show in 1930 in the Gallery of Modern Art of the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City. Thereafter he has had many one-man exhibitions in Mexico and has been included in group exhibitions shown in Cuba, Spain, the Soviet Union and Switzerland.
“During the period from 1932 to 1937, the height of the mural movement in Mexico, Dosamantes executed frescoes in the states of Oaxaca, Morelos, Michoacan, Coahuila and Chihuahua. He has worked… in the state of Campeche as Director of the School and Workshop of Drawing and Painting under the auspices of the Mexican Government. His lithographs and woodcuts have been used widely throughout Campeche in connection with the program against illiteracy with which Mexico has been concerned.” Artist Information from Associated American Artists.
