Harriet FeBland Constructions

“Totem imagery has been found in many primitive cultures. It’s a powerful force, and there is a reason why it is a chosen shape and has meaning for so many. Long ago I came to it geometrically. It was the vertical straight line that was my original premise and introduction to this theme. I was thinking ‘geometry’ and interested in the vertical, Yet once into developing this long narrow structure, something unexpected took over. The imagery persisted. The long narrow shape was much more than a straight line or simple geometry, which even today I continue to pursue. When shown in groups the totem is at its best, it becomes ‘family’, each in rhythm with the others so that once again repeated shapes are gaining strength from each other. A harmony of the artist’s personal imagery and geometric intuitions…poetry.”
