French cartographer Abraham Chatelain began his seven volume work, Atlas Historique, ou Nouvelle Introduction à l'Histoire, in Paris in 1705. Due to the large scale of the project, he ran into financial difficulties and moved to Amsterdam with his sons to complete the atlas in 1720.
