Rachel Newman (American) is the daughter of artist and sculptor Maurice Newman. Born in Boston and raised in rural Virginia, Rachel has lived and worked in Manhattan throughout her long career as a magazine editor. She was Editor-in-Chief of Country Living Magazine for 20 years. Rachel began to pursue painting after attending a plein air workshop in Tuscany with Maddine Insalaco in 1998. This workshop was pivotal to Rachel’s decision to end her career as a magazine editor and focus her time and energy on her painting. Rachel paints in Central Park, New York, and Rockport, Massachusetts as well as traveling to Italy at least once a year to continue her plein air studies. Rachel’s work is represented by the Phyllis Lucas Gallery, and is in private collections in the USA, Canada, Italy and Great Britain.

“Painting in the outdoors is one of my great pleasures and it is a way to capture and record the fast disappearing beauty of the earth.” - Rachel Newman
